Mark’s Record


Mark has a proven track record of effective, balanced and informed leadership, and has shown an ability to work well with Councillors of diverse views. He is accessible and responsive, and understands the importance that the Mayor’s position plays as Yellowknife’s voice on the territorial and national stage.

Mark’s Record as Mayor and as a Councillor:

  • Represented our city on the national and territorial stage
  • Successfully lobbied for a fairer community funding model for Yellowknife from the GNWT
  • Led the fight to preserve Tin Can Hill as a natural recreational area
  • Supported improvements to our quality of life through investments in the Field House and Somba K’e Civic Plaza
  • Decreased cost of living and City expenses through improved building energy efficiency requirements and increased use of biomass for City facilities
  • Supported the development of affordable housing such as Bailey House, Lynn’s Safe Place for Women, Hope’s Haven Youth Housing and Habitat for Humanity
